Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between landscape and sport turf?
Why is the base important?
The base will be designed by an expert, according to the local conditions and requirements. It’s important to keep the surface level overtime and to avoid organic materials from growing under the synthetic grass.
Why is infill important?
Infill is a granular material, usually sand and crumb rubber that is placed between the yarns. It’s important to achieve durability and performance. Reasons: 1. It covers the backing which is not designed for direct exposure to the sun. 2. It protects the backing from direct foot traffic. 3. Helps holding the yarns in place. 4. Reduces the force applied to the yarn by dissipating it. For sports usually we recommend an infill height of 70 % the pile height (yarn height) and for landscape around 50 %. Flexible infill is necessary for sport and playground applications as it gives extra cushion to the surface.
How landscape turf should be maintaned
Usually by cleaning with a water hose when necessary. You may brush it with a plastic yarn broom to set the yarns upright if necessary. When any problem presents itself, call the installer before it worsens.
Why is drainage important?
The drainage system should be designed by an expert. The base and the design depend on the local conditions of the site. The turf is water resistant, but not water proof, meaning that poor drainage will destroy the surface. If the drainage system is poor, and water is accumulated on the field, the infill material may float resulting in a very difficult to repair problem. Water accumulation will also damage the glue and seaming tapes and can result in health risks for the users.
How is the Synthetic Grass held to the base?
This depends on the installer, some will use anchor devices, and some will secure the surface only on the edges and leave the weight of the turf to hold it in between. Turf with infill can be heavy enough for this.
What to look for an installer?
It's not only a matter of experience, but experience is extremely important. Even more important is to evaluate the ability of the installer to make a proper installation. A very low installation price may result in poor installation. Evaluate the company itself and previous projects. Ask the installer to specify the type of joint material to be used (glue and seaming tape), quantity of infill and type of infill, in order to compare different proposals.
For heavy traffic the sport turf is made to be extra durable sacrificing softness. For medium traffic sport turf is made with high inertial yarns to help them remain standing straight up after foot traffic, resulting in a better appearance and performance. Landscape turf, with less traffic, is made with this same kind of yarn. Landscape turf is usually heavier, with a layer of texturized yarns (thatch yarn), this design requires less infill material than sport turf. You can use sport turf for a landscape project and infill it so it will be cheaper than a traditional landscape product.
How many years Landscape grass last?
Our limited warranty covers 8 years. How long it will last depends on usage level. If usage level is low, the limit is set by the UV resistance of the yarns, which may be less or more depending on the weather conditions. A residential landscape with lower traffic will last about 10 - 15 years. A playground turf with heavy traffic maybe destroyed in about 5 years. Different designs have different traffic conditions depending on the face weight, construction and yarn quality but also on the installation work and infill quantity. A poorly installed turf may last as little as 3 years. UV resistance is applied to the yarns during the manufacturing process, this is extremely important. A yarn with no UV resistance can disintegrate in a matter of months. The UV additive is difficult to measure without a very complex lab test and represents a big part of the cost of the yarn. This is why we only use trusted, well known manufacturers for our yarns.
How much does landcape grass cost?
The synthetic turf we make is a raw material for a final project, which also includes installation work, installation materials and design. To turn our product into a final surface, a professional installer is required, therefore, to get the price of turf, you should contact an installer. The price will be affected by the installation site conditions and the size of the project. From a turf stand-point, the cost depends on: 1. Price of the raw materials. 2. Technical specifications (mainly face weight) 3. Layers of backing and weight of layers of backing. 4. Weight and type of the coating application.
Why is infill important?
